Question

How is a cleaning reported for a patient who presents with generalized severe gingival inflammation and heavy calculus, but has no bone loss; therefore, scaling and root planing (SRP) cannot be performed?

Report D4346 for the patient with a documented diagnosis of generalized moderate or severe gingival
inflammation with no bone loss. The patient’s inflammatory condition may be chronic or severe and may
be followed up with a prophylaxis at a subsequent visit (2-6 weeks) after full mouth scaling in presence of
generalized moderate or severe gingival inflammation (D4346) procedure has been performed.
